Principle of Cutting Magnetic Cores

The core reasons for cutting magnetic cores lie in addressing two major limitations of closed magnetic circuits in practical applications. The first is magnetic saturation: a complete toroidal core is highly susceptible to saturation when encountering a large DC current, causing the inductance to drop sharply and the component to fail. The second is energy storage capability: although closed cores have extremely high permeability, their energy storage capacity is very weak. By artificially introducing an air gap into the magnetic core, the core's ability to withstand DC bias can be significantly improved. At the same time, energy can be efficiently stored within the magnetic field space of the air gap. Furthermore, the dependence of inductance on variations in material parameters is reduced, resulting in more stable electrical performance.
